My annual sunflower shoot at the Great Sand Dunes

Bucking the Trend I
I spent the late afternoon looking around for a good isolated sunflower with an appealing background, and settled on this guy!

Green is Good
The dune grasses always make a good subject, and I could really use my 24mm Tilt-shift to advantage here.

A Star is Born
I waited about an hour after sunset to take some shots of this sunflower. The moon was full so the dunes were quite visible still, but i bounced a bit of flash off the ground to add some highlite to the flower, and keep it on the sharp side in the 30-40 mph winds!

Perseids
A couple meteors streak across the night sky, only the brightest could be seen in the bright moonlight.

Dueling Waves
I liked how the dunes mimicked the clouds.

A Flower's Life
I discovered this sunflower while walking back after sunrise. I did a similar comp a couple years back, but my tilt-shift lens really helped here to use a larger aperature with a higher ISO to keep the flower sharp in the breeze.
