The Great Conjunction Monument Valley, Arizona
I planned this shot for months, even renting an expensive telephoto lens to get thee required foreshortening and detail in the planets and moon. This is the great conjunction of 2020, an alignment of Jupiter and Saturn, and in this case, the crescent moon, which only occurs once a lifetime if you are lucky. So I studied the landscape looking for the most iconic spot in the Southwest where I could get the right combination of planets and landscape--this turned out to be Monument Valley on the Utah/Arizona border. This was taken from 'Forrest Gump Hill" (famous movie scene) in Utah, about an hour after sunset. At full scale, you can see two of Jupiter's moons, Ganymede and Callisto. Truly a one-of-a-kind photograph that will not be duplicated in our lifetime! Photo © copyright by Stan Rose.
